Once again it’s Microppose making more useful stuff for people that like cultivating decent crops of mushrooms at home. This particular model was designed around the concept of “what if we filled a topless Darth Vader full of grain spawn and substrate instead of angry burnt flesh?”. You’ve simply got to admire their vision.
Made out of dense polypropylene, this monotub will last a good long time, meaning you can just crack on and get those mushrooms grown. It’s got four air exchange holes in specific places so that proper ventilation can occur and your little guys can breathe, and obviously it’s compatible with the standard Microppose 2” filters and plugs, and their liners (these are also included in the kit), so if you ever need to restock on those bits, we can hook you up.
Surface area is pretty important, and the difference between using a grow bag or all-in-one “inject and forget” kit is that whilst they’ve got the density of substrate to be able to carry a suitable amount of moisture (don’t forget your mushroom are around 90% water), they don’t have the surface area to match a monotub, and it’s the surface area that the mycelium will fruit from. You ideally want a balance between depth of substrate and surface area; this box has a 12” L x 12” W x 12 H form factor, so it’s small enough to stash somewhere, fits on a wire shelf nicely, but deep and wide enough to make sure you get a nice yield. The surface area would be around double that of our beginner grow kits if you used the space fully.
It’s also stackable if that’s your kinda thing.
